Office of Zoning and Code Enforcement
The Office of Zoning and Code Enforcemen is responsible for review of all building construction plans, site plans, and the coordination of other agencies' reviews.
Duties:
- Issues all zoning certificates, certificates of occupancy, permits for new construction, renovation, plumbing, sheds, decks, pools, site grading, fences, and signs.
- Perform all code required inspections for building, plumbing, infrastructure, and verify adherence to zoning setback requirements regarding placement of new buildings, additions, pools, and sheds.
- Answer public inquiries concerning: building and plumbing codes; stormwater management; site development; zoning; zoning of properties; and identification of properties located within the flood plain.
- Enforce the Pittston Township Housing Code by investigating all housing code complaints filed with this office, and take the necessary action to have the violations corrected.
- Determine when a request for a variance or a special exception to the Zoning Ordinance is warranted.

Review variance and special exception requests, process the requests, and supply support staff for Pittston Township Zoning Hearing Board meetings.
ZONING PERMITS MUST BE FILED FOR:
- Subdivision of property.
- New homes.( Standard, Manufactured, Mobile )
- New building or structure. (Commercial)
- Additions.
- Attached accessory structures. (Garage)
- Unattached accessory structures. (Garage, Sheds)
- Boundary fences & walls.
- Pools (In ground & Above ground)
- Decks (Attached & Unattached)
All Zoning Permits must be accompanied with a detailed scaled drawing.
The scaled drawing must show all perimeter measurements. It must include the measurements of existing structures as well as new structures, attached & unattached and their distance from all boundary lines of property. All new homes and new commercial structures must include a contour map of elevation showing the direction of water run off and it’s influence on all adjacent properties.
The permit should be filled out as accurately as possible with as much information necessary to describe the project. The permit will not be validated without proper payment and your signature, as well as the signature of the Zoning Officer.
